WOW fusion is an innovative device delivering a fusion of 3 treatments, micro-needling, mesotherapy and microtoxin. The device is a glass vial with a needle head with 20 gold plated titanium needles 0.13mm in diameter. A spiral groove facilitates product flow from the vial through the needles and delivers products into epidermal/dermal junction. Needles used are 0.6mm or 1mm long.
Microneedles create trauma to the epidermis/dermis to stimulate cells such as keratinocytes, melanocytes, growth factors and fibroblast cells for neocollagensis and neovascularisation etc (See microneedling treatment section for further information).
Administration of active ingredients via micro injections/channels into the mesodermis. Ingredients used depend on the skin condition to be treated. Common actives include hyaluronic acid, succinic acid, vitamin C and glutathione.
Microtoxin is when the neuromodulator Botulinum Toxin Type A is used in the WOW Fusion device and delivered to the mesodermis like other mesotherapy ingredients. The brands Botox and Azzalure are used. This a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. The medicinal form is manufactured in a stringent and controlled environment and used for medical purposes in very tiny, innocuous amounts. Botulinum Toxin A is normally injected into the muscles to prevent the release of acetylchloline at the neuromuscular juntion. This chemical (acetylcholine) is normally released and passes a chemical message to the muscle to allow it to contract. When this message is blocked the muscle fibres are temporarily paralysed and unable to contract, consequently relaxing the muscle and the skin. As the muscle is unable to contract as much it can prevent wrinkles from forming, improves static wrinkles and prevents existing wrinkles becoming deeper lines/folds. Microtoxin has a general softening effect of the epidermal layer resulting in a ‘glass skin effect’ and has no impact on larger and deeper muscles.
Botulinum Toxin A is a prescription only medicine (POM). It is prescribed and administered by a medical professional holding the relevant prescribing qualification ONLY after a face to face consultation/assessment. During your consultation a detailed medical history will be taken, helping the medical specialist to determine whether Botulinum Toxin A is an appropriate medicine for you to receive and whether it will help you achieve the results that you are looking for. A skin assessment will be performed to ensure that the WOW fusion treatment is suitable. This will also reduce the risk of any unwanted side effects from the treatment. During this consultation the potential risks and aftercare recommendations are discussed, helping you determine whether this form of treatment is really right for you.
