Wrinkle Consultation- Shrewsbury, Welshpool & Newtown

Woman examining forehead wrinkles.

Understanding Your Options

Lines and wrinkles are a natural part of facial movement and ageing. Over time, repeated muscle activity, changes in skin quality and the natural ageing process can contribute to the development of lines and folds.

If you're concerned about lines and wrinkles, a consultation at Natura Aesthetics provides the opportunity to discuss your concerns and explore the treatment options that may be appropriate for you.

As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Independent Prescriber, I will assess your individual facial anatomy, muscle movement, skin quality, medical history and aesthetic goals before discussing any treatment options.

How prescription muscle-relaxing treatments work

One treatment option that may be considered following a consultation is a prescription medicine containing botulinum toxin type A.

Botulinum toxin works locally at the neuromuscular junction by temporarily reducing the release of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger involved in transmitting signals from nerves to muscles. This reduces the ability of the treated muscle to contract.

As facial expressions involve repeated muscle contraction, reducing muscle activity in selected areas can reduce the movement responsible for certain expression lines. The effect is temporary and gradually wears off as normal nerve-to-muscle communication returns.

The suitability of this treatment depends on a number of factors, including your individual anatomy, muscle activity, medical history and the area being considered. It is not appropriate for everyone.

A personalised approach

I take a conservative and individualised approach to facial aesthetics. The aim of your consultation is not simply to identify a treatment, but to understand what you would like to achieve and whether treatment is appropriate for you.

We will discuss:

  • Your areas of concern
  • Your facial expressions and muscle movement
  • Your skin quality and overall facial appearance
  • Your previous aesthetic treatments
  • Your medical history and current medication
  • The available treatment options
  • Potential benefits, risks and side effects
  • What you can realistically expect from treatment
  • Appropriate aftercare and follow-up

Where prescription treatment is considered appropriate, this will only be prescribed following an appropriate clinical assessment and consultation.

What Can Be Considered During Your Consultation?

Depending on your individual concerns and assessment, we may discuss areas where facial movement contributes to the appearance of lines.

These can include areas such as:

Forehead lines

Horizontal lines that can become more noticeable when the forehead muscles are used to raise the eyebrows.

Frown lines

Vertical or diagonal lines that can develop between the eyebrows as a result of repeated contraction of the muscles used when frowning or concentrating.

Lines around the eyes

Fine lines around the outer eye area can become more visible with repeated smiling and other facial expressions.

The appropriate approach depends on your individual facial anatomy and movement. Treating facial muscles requires careful consideration of how different muscles interact with one another, rather than simply treating a line in isolation.

Your safety comes first

With over 20 years of nursing experience, including experience in intensive care, acute medicine and primary care, I bring a strong clinical background to my aesthetics practice.

As a Nurse Independent Prescriber, I am qualified to assess and prescribe within my professional scope of practice. I am registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), a member of the British Association of Medical Nurses (BAMAN), and fully insured with Cosmetic Insure.

Your safety and wellbeing are at the centre of every consultation and treatment. I will always provide honest advice and, if I don't believe a treatment is appropriate for you, I will tell you.

Natural-looking results

My philosophy is to take a considered approach to facial aesthetics and avoid an unnecessarily over-treated appearance.

Everyone's face is different, and treatment should always be tailored to the individual. The consultation gives us the opportunity to discuss your concerns, expectations and options so that you can make an informed decision about whether treatment is right for you.

What Happens After Your Consultation?

Following your assessment, we will discuss the options available to you and whether treatment is appropriate. Treatment will be booked for a separate day from the consultation to allow you time to consider your whether your decision is the best option for you.

If a prescription treatment is being considered, it will only be prescribed following an appropriate clinical assessment and in accordance with your individual circumstances.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and make an informed decision about whether you wish to proceed.

If treatment isn't appropriate for you, I'll explain why and, where suitable, discuss alternative options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have treatment during my consultation?

No, anti-wrinkle treatments require a prescription which must only be ordered after a consultation has taken place. The consultation is primarily about assessing your suitability, discussing your concerns and explaining your options. Any prescription treatment will only be provided following an appropriate clinical assessment.

How long does a consultation take?

Your appointment length will depend on your individual circumstances and whether treatment is subsequently considered appropriate. Allowing sufficient time for a proper assessment and discussion is important to me. Allow at least 30 minutes for your consultation.

Is treatment suitable for everyone?

No. Prescription treatments are not appropriate for everyone. Your medical history, medications, allergies, previous treatments and individual circumstances will be assessed before any prescription is considered.

Will I still be able to move my face naturally?

Facial movement and treatment outcomes vary between individuals. This is why assessment of your facial anatomy and muscle activity is an important part of your consultation. Your desired outcome and the importance of maintaining natural facial expression will also be discussed.

How long do the effects last?

The duration of effect varies between individuals and depends on factors including the treatment area and individual response. Generally results last 3 to 6 months.

What happens if I decide treatment isn't for me?

That's absolutely fine. There is no obligation to proceed. Your consultation is an opportunity to receive professional advice and understand your options, whether or not you ultimately decide to have treatment.
